Now Hiring – The Right Employee
A new year, a new employee? This is the time to re-evaluate your employees and see if you need a new one or maybe this is the time that an old employee has decided to leave and you’re in need of a new employee. Whatever the reason, you are about to embark on a difficult task – Hiring the Right Employee.Did you know that the majority of the time we hire people based on how well we get a long with them and NOT on how well we think they will do the job. When you think about the fact that we have to spend up-to 8-hours with this person up-to 5-days a week, why wouldn’t we want someone that we think we will be able to get along with. But the truth is…you are who your hire…
And believe it or not, hiring the right person is easier than you think…
You need an employee who has the ability, wiliness and are teachable to do the job. To do this, you need to have realistic expectations about the job you are offering.
What qualities are needed for the position? Take the time to figure this out and you will know what type of person you need to fill the position.
Next, what qualities do you want from the new hire? Put those qualities in order of importance and then ONLY hire someone who fits those qualities. This might mean you need to wait awhile for the right person to come along, but wouldn’t you rather hire once and get the right person, than to hire someone and have to do it all over again in a couple of months. And think about this…if you hire the wrong person, you might have even more mess to clean up and what are you saying to your other employees…the good ones…?
I’m not saying the right employee will come in on the first day and make things better right from the start, you might have to search for some time to find the right person, but when the right person, with the right qualities for the job comes through the door, you will know it and things will be easier from that point on…
