Mission Statements – Do You Have a Vision for Your Company?
Do you have a Mission Statement for your company? Yes? Great! No? Why not? A Mission Statement gives your company a vision. It lets your employees know where you want to be be and how you want to get there. Figure out your vision for your company, put it in writing, training your employees so they understand it and you will find your success…Having a vision and creating foundations and mission statements isn’t enough. This is just the start. After you have figured out where you want your company to be and how you want to get it there, it is time to introduce them to your employees and you can’t just expect them to follow them, you have to work with them to make this vision come true.
You need to make sure you are communicating the mission to your staff. You need to train them on each foundation, so they know what your vision is.
You need to reward those who not only follow the foundations and mission statement, but who bring them to life. Anyone can do a foundation, but it is those employees who really go above and beyond that will make a difference.
So how do you create a vision and mission statement for your company? First, you need to know what is important to your customers. Your vision should revolve around them, because without customers, you have no company.
So what is your vision? Your vision is to see what “could be” with your company. Then write a Vision Statement that is only about 10 – 15 words. This gives you and your staff the chance to ’see’ where your company wants to be.
Your ‘mission’ supports your vision. The mission will list the action you and your staff need to take to bring your vision to life. You want your mission to be about one to two sentences. Make it meaningful and memorable.
And a third thing you need is Value. Values (sometimes called Foundations) are a list of 4 to 6 actions that need to be done. They will give let you and your staff kjnow how the work will be done and what the company will gain fron them. Make each value/foundation about a sentence each. Make sure they are clear steps to get your company to where it wants to be.
Once you have your Vision, Mission Statement and Values/Foundations then you need to train your employees on how to succeed at each.
